Portal crane, as a variant of bridge crane, is also known as gantry crane. This type of crane plays an important role in the loading and unloading operations of outdoor freight yards, material yards, and bulk cargo. Its unique portal frame structure enables it to perform well in terms of site utilization, operational scope, adaptability, and versatility, thus it has been widely used in port cargo yards. In addition, the main beam of the gantry crane is equipped with two support legs, allowing it to easily walk on the ground track. The design of the overhanging cantilever beams at both ends of the main beam also brings greater operational flexibility.
A gantry crane, also commonly known as a gantry crane, is unique in that its bridge is firmly supported on the ground track by the support legs on both sides. This type of crane includes multiple key components in its structure, such as a gantry, a large vehicle operating mechanism, a lifting trolley, and an electrical system. It is worth mentioning that some gantry cranes only have legs on one side, while the other side is supported on the factory building or wharf for operation, which is called a semi gantry crane. The upper bridge frame (including the main beam and end beam), supporting legs, and lower crossbeam of its gantry together constitute its main structure. In order to further expand the operating range of the crane, the main beam can flexibly extend towards one or both sides of the support legs, thereby forming a cantilever. In addition, the use of a crane trolley equipped with an arm frame can effectively expand the operating range of the crane by adjusting the pitch and rotation of the arm frame.
